Since 1988, the National Education Association leads a year-long program with Public School educators, that lectures them on helpful ways to educate students, and different books are introduced as possible curriculum guides. For years, the Association also directed a ‘’read across america day’’ when children in Public Schools are encouraged to read popular books featured on their site, such as Leland Melvin’s book, Chasing Space, the poetry of the U.S, and of course, their most famous program Dr. Seuss’s birthday classics. Yesterday, after all was both the Read Across America day, as well as Dr.Seuss’s birthday, but this year, the entire program was quite different. Dr.Seuss has been removed from nea.org and the Read Across America program. They did this because Dr.Seuss Enterprises themselves has removed some of Seuss’s classic books. They did this because “These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong.” This is shameful. We as a society are at the point, that we are canceling Dr. Seuss! Dr. Seuss may have done some distasteful things indeed, however, he has also completed the ‘’Art of Dr.Seuss collection’’ which raised millions of dollars for the arts, and of course, his books has inspired and teached nearly a billion children since his death. He created some of the world’s most famous books and illustrations, including Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and The Lorax. He was, after all, one of the pioneers of clever storytelling that didn’t insult the intelligence of children. How dare, the leftist mob come after this legend of writing and inspiring. Cancel Culture has gone on too far! The President of the United States is now partaking in this brutal and disrespectful habit, exhibited on the internet, called cancel culture. People on the internet, who destroy people’s careers and legacies for a sole action they’ve done, that does not necessarily reflect their character, should be ashamed of themselves. Cancel Culture is not a good reflection of this generation, and it is our responsibly to stop it. For if we do not, you too, may be a victim of this cancel culture. After all, if Dr.Seuss can be canceled, for literally just showing an Asian in his book why not you?
