The dynamics of the Royal Family is actually more important than just magazine covers, and sister drama.

‘‘Meghan and Prince Harry’s explosive Oprah interview prompts widespread reaction’’ was the headline on NBC. On Forbes, the title ‘‘Meghan Markle Tells Oprah Winfrey ‘‘It’s Nothing Like What It Looks Like’’ appeared on their website. Throughout the news today, quotes and excerpts from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah, was used as titles for eye catching articles. But this historic interview, raised a question. Why does Britain still have a Royal Family, and why do we care? Since 1603, Royal Families played instrumental roles in the governing of England. But for the past 100 years, the families popularity, and power has started to die out. In 1918, the Representation of the People Acts passed, which gave cities across England representation in a national Parliament. Since then, the Queen and Kings power diminished. They no longer had power to pass national laws within days, by just the signature of the king, they now have to have both the House of Commons, and the House of Lords, to agree with the resolution, then must be agreed by the royals, to be passed. Of course, their popularity and approval also fell, at the height of the Princess Diana scandals in the 80’s. Once, Prince Charles married Camilla, after having an affair with her during his marriage with Diana, approval ratings plummeted for the Royal Family. People liked Diana, and did not want a cheater to take her place as future queen. But the scandals eventually died down, and people gained interest in the family again. While I personally dont understand why anyone, ever, likes to be entertained by this stuff, people are. So, once Kate Middleton and Prince Williams married, magazines and tabloids featured Royal Family stories yet again. Finally, the marriage of Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry. The two were a good couple, and people enjoyed watching their relationship unfold, but Markle being an American, started to get Americans attention to the Royal Family as well, but the drama stopped it all. Traditionally, members of the Royal Family follow the customary protocols of the Royals, and they usually act aristocratically, but Markle didn’t. She acted unique, and personal to fans, and that drew a parallel to Princess Diana, and thew Queen hated it. Meghan Markle was pressured out of the Royal Family, and was cut off of the financial support from the Royals. The drama triggered an outrage, and last nights Oprah interview, was the culmination of all of that. It was the peak of all of these events coming together, so in a way, it was the last push. The last push to eliminate the trust, and love for the Royal Family, and in that way, it was a significant event. It represented the end of the modern day monarchs. Hopefully, Britain will learn a lesson from this, and stop relying on Kings and Queens for their governance, in the 21st century.
